Infosys, a prominent player in the IT sector, has established itself as a major company in India. With its headquarters situated in Bangalore, the largest city of Indian state Karnataka. Infosys is known for delivering a wide range of services to its clients such as business consulting, Information Technology, and outsourcing.

Infosys is considered the second-largest IT company in India after TCS(Tata Consultancy Services). Infosys is currently present in over 56+ countries around the Globe. The company was established on 2 July 1981 in Pune by seven engineers with an initial investment of US $250 and has been grossing billions in today’s date in over 40 years. At present, Infosys is ranked among the top three IT services brands in the World by Brand Finance.

The current CEO of Infosys is Salil Parekh and the current Chairman of the company is Nandan Nilekani who formerly served a the CEO of Infosys between August 2014 and August 2017.

History Of Infosys

The company was established by Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy, Nandan Nilekani, Kris Gopalakrishnan, Shibulal, K. Dinesh, Nadathur Sarangapani Raghavan, and Ashok Arora in 1981 as Infosys Consultants Private Limited. The company’s first client was Data Basics Corporation, based in New York. Infosys expanded rapidly, opening its first international office in Boston, US, in 1987.

The company was renamed Infosys Technologies Private Limited in 1992 and then Infosys Technologies Limited, before becoming Infosys Limited in 2011. Infosys established its first European office in the UK in 1995 and created the Infosys Foundation in 1996. Infosys successfully touched a revenue of around US$ 100 million in 1999 within the 2 decades of its operation which was started from just US$ 250. Within the next year, Infosys reached a global revenue of 200 million dollars. N.R. Narayana Murthy was rated among the top 25 influential businessperson by Time Magazine.

In 2002, Nandan M. Nilekani was appointed as the new CEO of Infosys, and in the same year Infosys opened its branches in Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Singapore. With its massive growth in the global market, the company successfully reaches a revenue of US$ 1 billion in 2004. So it took 25 years to reach the annual revenue of 1 billion dollars.

Again in 2007, Kris Gopalakrishnan took over Nandan M. Nilekani as CEO of Infosys, and in the course of years, Infosys has been providing its services around the world. The company has also been ranked number 2 on Forbes ‘World’s Best Regarded  Companies‘ list in 2019. It is one of the fastest-growing IT company today.

Financial Performance of Infosys

As of 2024, Infosys has a net worth or market capitalization of $75 billion. In 2023, Infosys did a whooping revenue of US$ 19 billion, which was a growth of 20.7% compared to the previous years and the company’s net income was US$ 3 billion. Around 62.2% of the total revenue comes from digital technology services and solutions.

Infosys reported the number of employees around the world to be 340k+ with nearly 50k fresh graduates hired. and has an employee satisfaction score of 82%. As of 2023, 39.4% of the total employees were women. In 2016, 89% of its employees were based in India. And Infosys has 735 patents in its name.

Subsidiaries of Infosys

Infosys BPM

Infosys BPM, where BPM stands for Business Process Management is a subsidiary of Infosys and was started in April 2002 as Progeon Limited based in Bengaluru, India. Infosys BPM provides integrated outsourcing and transformation services. Anantha Radhakrishnan is the current CEO and MD of the Infosys BPM.

Infosys BPM functions across 35 delivery sites spanning 14 countries across Asia, the Americas, Europe, and other regions worldwide, with the majority of its workforce situated in India.

In 2018, the company underwent a name change to become Infosys BPM, having previously operated under the name Infosys BPO Limited since 2006. Subsequently, in 2019, Infosys BPM entered into a joint venture with Hitachi, Panasonic, and Pasona.

As of December 2023, Infosys BPM employs around 56,541 employees and was able to generate a revenue of US $1.5 billion in the fiscal year 2023.

Infosys Panaya

Infosys Panaya is a subsidiary company of Infosys which focuses on Software as a Service (SaaS) aspect and provides cloud-based testing and change impact analysis to their clients. The company was acquired by Infosys in 2015.

The CEO of the company is David Binny. The headquarter of the company is in Hod Hasharon, Israel. The company operates its offices in North America, Europe and Japan. The company employs only around 200+ employees.
