The company was established by Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy, Nandan Nilekani, Kris Gopalakrishnan, Shibulal, K. Dinesh, Nadathur Sarangapani Raghavan, and Ashok Arora in 1981 as Infosys Consultants Private Limited. The company’s first client was Data Basics Corporation, based in New York. Infosys expanded rapidly, opening its first international office in Boston, US, in 1987.
The company was renamed Infosys Technologies Private Limited in 1992 and then Infosys Technologies Limited, before becoming Infosys Limited in 2011. Infosys established its first European office in the UK in 1995 and created the Infosys Foundation in 1996. Infosys BPM, where BPM stands for Business Process Management is a subsidiary of Infosys and was started in April 2002 as Progeon Limited based in Bengaluru, India.
